Reminiscing

I remember what it was like before technology was readily available and can be used by anyone. A life before you were so consumed by fast and easy.

Sometimes I dream of being able to go back to that time in life where you didn't have to worry about a new trend or what someone posted online. A time where you could go somewhere and people said hi or asked you about your day instead of them with earbuds in or looking down at their phone.

Driving my first car down the backroads or even being in the passenger seat listening to CDs bought or burned from a friend. Back when my car had windows you had to manually roll down and no AUX cord. The windows down and no one worried about a text or a post on social media. Singing at the top of our lungs pitchy and out of tune.

I grew up with a home phone and dial up internet. I remember the tine and making my AOL chat username. I remember learning to code from Myspace but if someone asked me to do that again I don't think I would be able to.

I loved when my hometown was a two lane highway with only three or four stop lights. I remember when the fire station and police station where in the same building. I remember the western days parade and the carnival behind Arby's. I remember growing up and knowing all of my neighbors and spending the Fourth of July with basically the whole street.

I remember watching I Love Lucy with my granny and spending most of my childhood there. She was my favorite person and I am always told that I am just like her (I take it as the highest form of compliment). She loved pigs and she had a hutch full of glass figurines. I would go to Albertsons with her and she would always make sure we went to the bakery to go our free cookie. We spent every holiday over there. We would bring our bikes or scooters over and go play with the neighborhood kids in the big church parking lot.

I remember being able to grow up at a circus. My dad used to be a clown in the shriners circus. We got to watch all the shows on the floor seats and go back stage. I would often fall asleep after dinner that the ladies would make and they would all keep an eye on me.

The state fair was always a blast when we were able to afford it. I loved the cinnamon rolls, funnel cakes, corn dogs, and jug of root beer. We would spend the whole day there and late into the night. I always loved going into the buildings and I always had to get a balloon filled with water and on the end there was a big rubber band tied on so you could bounce like a yo-yo and the old martinet puppet that was shaped as the animal I liked that year.

My life seemed so simple when I was little but it's not until you grow up and you reminisce on old memories that you see, things that your child mind didn't think was fascinating or important, but your adult mind was like man I can't believe I didn't notice that until now.
